Amália Rodrigues was a Portuguese singer, actress and fado singer, generally acclaimed as the Voice of Portugal and one of the most brilliant singers of the 20th century. An inescapable figure in the History of Fado, she is a constant reference in the permanent exhibition of the Fado Museum.
She toured all over the world, with shows in Spain, France, Switzerland, Israel, India, Macau, Korea, Japan, Belgium, the United States, Italy, etc. She imposed her interest in erudite poetry and was the author of many poems that she performed and published on disc.
According to her will, the Amália Rodrigues House-Museum, was created and inaugurated on 24 July 2001 in Lisbon. It represents a true journey through her life where her daily life is recreated. Her dresses and stage jewellery, the awards and honours and memories. Each piece, from the black shawl to the guitars on the piano tells the story of Fado, as described as a definition of the Portuguesespirit or the blues of Portugal. As an actress and singer, she was awarded numerous awards and honours.
She is buried in the National Pantheon in Lisbon, among other illustrious Portuguese personalities.

International acclaim came with the first Venice Biennale in 2005, with The Bride. In 2013 she drew attention again with Trafaria Praia, the first floating pavilion in the history of the show, representing Portugal.

In 2018, she became the first Portuguese artist to have a solo exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, which was also one of the most visited in the museum's history and the fourth best exhibition that year as per The Art Newspaper. Beyond, her largest UK exhibition to date, continues at Yorkshire Sculpture Park until January 2022.

José Saramago was a Portuguese writer. Author of more than 40 titles and awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1998. He was also distinguished, in 1995, with the Camões Prize, the most important literary award for Portuguese.
